Diane (my wife) and I are fairly new TIVO users but , except for enduring several days of frustration, we are happy with what we have. Diane programmed it to record a few news programs including ABC news, NBC news , Bill Moyers, and Glen Beck. Then Comcast changed some things and Glen Beck no longer recorded. This was about the time Beck was getting into the ACORN and Van Johnson investigations and each day he was hyping the upcoming climax. Was this a vast left-wing conspiracy to shut down the opposition? What followed was an ordeal that made you long for the days when setting up a TV did not take a communications engineer.
Diane found out that we now needed to install a decoder card to get that Fox channel. We hired a Comcast man to come out and install it but he left before finishing the setup. After Diane finished his installation, we could watch Glen Beck, but it still would not record. Diane got on line and found out that our programming was coming from the wrong Comcast site. When Diane fixed this, the new programming site showed two Glen Beck programs to record and, of course, the first one we picked was somehow wrong; it was not Glen Beck. Even that programming was wrong. But on the 2nd channel, we finally hit gold. We can now record Beck. Just in time to find out that the Senate had overwhelmingly voted to cut off the subsidy to ACORN.
I imagine some of you are asking, “Why are you watching Glen Beck?”
The answer that immediately comes to mind is based on the ACORN investigation. On 9/18/09, Diane Rehm on NPR reported that a number of hidden camera “sting” recordings documented various ACORN employees involved in aiding a prostitution ring for underage girls. The 1st response of ACORN management was to charge that the tapes were invalid because they were edited. The 2nd response was to fire the offending ACORN employees. But as Diane Rehm pointed out, (1) you can’t have it both ways and (2) There is only so much you can do in editing video tapes (which were devastating to ACORN). The senatorial vote to cut off ACORN funding was attributed to the reports from Fox news/Glen Beck. NPR did a fine job on this report but it would have been a lot more useful if this old news had been reported BEFORE the senate vote. Glen Beck did a huge favor to the Senate Democrats by repetitively working this story. If he had played it down, I would imagine there would have been many more Democrats voting against this de-funding bill and there would be more heads to roll when their term expires. Many senators changed their minds and, in the end, only seven senators voted to maintain funding to ACORN. These 7 have been referred to as the "Senator's Child Sex Seven" in this case, which I'm calling JailBaitgate:
* Dick Durbin (D-IL)
* Roland Burris (D-IL)
* Robert Casey (D-PA)
* Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)
* Patrick Leahy (D-VT)
* Bernie Sanders (I-VT)
* Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)
If the House and the President follow the example of the Senate, ACORN will still be able to intimidate bank Presidents into giving loans that can’t be repaid to the point of bringing down the economy. But they can do it on their own tab.
Other reasons for watching Glen Beck:
We no longer have a admitted Communist/9/11 revisionist on our President’s payroll. (Van Johnson resigned as the green jobs adviser.)
If there is a better site for investigative reporting, I'd like to hear of it.
